Ontario Cup 2012 Presented By Boston Pizza

VAUGHAN, August 27, 2012 – The 2012 Ontario Cup presented by Boston Pizza had its Semi-Finals decided over the weekend, and many were treated to a first-class display of skill that made for entertaining matches. The Ontario Cup Finals are now set, and will be played over the September 8-9, and September 15-16 weekends at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
Below are reports on all the games that took place over Semi-Final weekend.
Under 12 Boys – Esther Shiner Stadium, North York

In the first of the Under 12 Boys Semi-Finals, Mooredale Lightning Gold took on Vaughan Battlecats. Mooredale got off to a great start with a goal in the 2nd minute by #14 O’Vonte Mullings. After a shaky start, Vaughan would pick up the intensity and were able to equalize in the 19th minute from a goal by #14 Daniel Priolo. The rest of the game went scoreless, so the game was decided by Kicks from the Penalty Mark. Vaughan would edge Mooredale 4-2 and will move on to the Ontario Cup Finals. Congratulations to the Vaughan Battlecats!

In the second of the Under 12 Boys Semi-Finals, Woodbridge Strikers 2000 North took on Kitchener Spirit. Both teams would exchange chances throughout the game, but after regulation time the score stood at 1-1. The Woodbridge goal was scored by #20 Luca Petrasso. The Kitchener goal was scored by #15 Isaac Nichols. Woodbridge would eventually win 4-2 in Kicks from the Penalty Mark. They will move on to the Ontario Cup Finals on September 8 at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Under 12 Girls – Birchmount Stadium, Scarborough

In the first Under 12 Girls Semi-Finals, Whitby Iroquois 00AF faced off against Woodbridge Strikers 2000. Woodbridge took the advantage early in the game with a goal in the 2nd minute scored by #2 Ida Miceli. Both teams continued to battle hard for the remainder of the first half but it was a hand ball in the 29th minute that resulted in a penalty shot for Woodbridge. The goal was scored by #16 Katilin Tolnai to put the score at 2-0 Woodbridge at the half. The second half remained scoreless and the 2-0 victory went to Woodbridge who will advance to the Finals to be played on Saturday September 15th at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Whitby was #10 Meaghan Best and the Woodbridge Boston Pizza Player of the Game was #16 Katilin Tolnai.

In the second Semi-Final of the Under 12 Girls division, the action heated up along with the turf. Windsor Eastside Kickers took on the Brampton Brams United Renegades. The Renegades took an early lead, netting the first goal of the game at the nine minute mark. It was Maysun Arcand that is credited with the goal. Windsor held strong for the remainder of the first half, however, the second half belonged to Brams United as four more goals were added to the team’s tally: a second for Maysun Arcand, two for Samantha Chong and one for Chantal Pereira. The final score was 5-0 Brams United Renegades over the Windsor Eastside Kickers. The Boston Pizza Player of the game for Windsor Eastside Kickers was Avery Brown and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brams United Renegades was Samantha Chong. Brams United Renegades will meet the Woodbridge Strikers 2000 in the Finals on
September 15 at the Soccer Centre.

Under 13 Boys – Centennial Stadium, Toronto

In the first of the Under 13 Boys Semi-Finals, Erin Mills Eagles Gold took on Richmond Hill Raiders Green. Erin Mills came out flying and were rewarded with a quick goal by #12 Jamari Whyte in the 5th minute. At half time the score stood at 1-0 for Erin Mills. Erin Mills kept the pressure on in the early minutes of the second half and Whyte was able to find the back of the net twice in the 43rd and 46th minutes, completing the hat trick. The final score was 3-0 for Erin Mills. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Richmond Hill was #8 Gabriel Jodhan. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Erin Mills was #12 Jamari Whyte. Congratulations to the Erin Mills 99 Gold!

In the second of the Under 13 Boys Semi-Finals, North London FC 99 Elite took on Brampton Blast 99. North London got off to a quick start with a goal in the 6th minute by #21 Logan Wright. The score would remain 1-0 at half time. In the second half, Brampton picked up the intensity and was rewarded in the 63rd minute with a goal by #16 Shaan Hundal. Brampton would go ahead in the 77th minute with a goal by #19 Glenn Muenkat. The final score was 2-1 for Brampton. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for North London was #21 Logan Wright. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brampton was #16 Shaan Hundal. Congratulations to the Brampton Blast 99!

Under 13 Girls – Esther Shiner Stadium, North York

In the first of the Under 13 Girls Semi-Finals, Unionville Milliken Strikers took on Georgetown Mustangs. Despite a strong effort by Georgetown, Unionville would eventually take the contest 4-1. Unionville goals scorers were #11 Kathleen Casteneda, #10 Kennedy Faulknor (2), and #19 Alexis Fortune. The Georgetown goal was scored by #7 Jessica Dodig. Unionville will move on to the Ontario Cup Finals on September 15 at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

In the second of the Under 13 Girls Semi-Finals, Erin Mills Eagles took on Ottawa South United 99 Force Black. Erin Mills got off to a great start with a goal in the 2nd minute by #23 Alyssa Julien. They would add a second goal in the 42nd minute by #14 Teniola Odetoyinbo. And Erin Mills would eventually put the game away in the 69th minute with a goal by #88 Taylor Johnston. Congratulations to the Erin Mills Eagles!

Under 14 Boys – Birchmount Stadium, Scarborough

The first Under 14 Boys Semi-Final featured two Peel Halton teams. Brampton East Scorpions and North Mississauga Panthers. Brampton East notched an early goal on a Penalty Kick. Malik Johnson took the kick to put his team up 1-0 at the seven minute mark. In the 32nd minute, North Mississauga tied it up when Cyrus Rollocks bounced a ball off the Brampton East defender into the net. North Mississauga then took the lead when Matthew Monteiro found the back of the net off a scramble in front of the Brampton East goal. Nevertheless, Brampton East quickly found the equalizer at the 70th minute with a goal by Reshon Phillip. At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 2-2 sending it to Kicks from the Penalty Mark to determine the winner. In the end, North Mississauga outscored Brampton East 3-2 in Kicks from the Penalty Mark. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brampton East Scorpions was Rocco Strazzella and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for North Mississauga Panthers was Cyrus Rollocks.

In the second Under 14 Boys Semi-Final, Mount Hamilton faced off against Richmond Hill Raiders White. After a scoreless first 61 minutes of play, it was Mount Hamilton’s Denzell Albers-Wallace that broke past the Richmond Hill defenders and slid the ball past the keeper into the net. That goal proved to be the game winner, sending Mount Hamilton to the Cup Finals against the North Mississauga Panthers on September 8 at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Mount Hamilton was Andrew Pawlowski and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Richmond Hill Raiders was Bola Avolonto.

Under 14 Girls – Civic Stadium, Oshawa

In the first game at Civic Stadium on Saturday morning, Waterloo United matched up against Burlington Bayhawks in the first Semi-Final. It was Burlington that struck first and early when Chandra Davidson netted a goal just three minutes into the game. Despite Waterloo’s efforts, the team was unable to find the equalizer and with minutes to go in the game, Burlington scored the insurance goal to secure the win. Vanessa Guglietti is credited with the goal. The final score was 2-0 for Burlington Bayhawks. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Burlington Bayhawks was Chandra Davidson and Waterloo United’s Player of the Game was Abby Howard.

Pickering Power Green met the Woodbridge Strikers 98 in the second Under 14 Girls Semi-Final at Civic Stadium in Oshawa. Pickering came out strong in the first half scoring early in the game; credit for the goal went to #18 Madisen Chaisson. Woodbridge responded with several opportunities to tie the game however the score remained 1-0 for Pickering at the end of the first half. Despite the rowdy crowd and several scoring attempts for both teams, the game concluded with a 1-0 victory for Pickering. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Pickering was #5 Stasi Torchia and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Woodbridge was #15 Sierra Henderson-Muschett. Pickering will advance to the Finals to be held on Sunday September 9th at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Under 15 Boys Tier 2 – Civic Stadium, Oshawa

In the first Under 15 Boys Tier 2 Semi-Finals, Niagara Falls Titans B met Toronto High Park FC at Civic Stadium. Niagara opened the scoring in the 16th minute, #29 Derek Dietz made it a 1-0 game for Niagara Falls. Toronto High Park battled back with several good chances in the first half however Niagara came out on top as the score remained 1-0. The pressure was on in the second half as Niagara was looking to increase their lead and Toronto High Park was looking for their first goal of the game. In the 78th minute of play, Toronto High Park’s #10 Stephen Bell made it a 1-1 game. With only a few minutes remaining both teams shared goal scoring opportunities however the winning goal came from Toronto High Park’s #16 Luke Caccamo. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Niagara was #4 Joshua Lang and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Toronto High Park was #16 Luke Caccamo. Toronto High Park will advance to the Ontario Cup Finals at The Soccer Centre on Saturday September 15th.
In the second of the Under 15 Boys Tier 2 Semi-Finals, 97 Brampton Blast took on Richmond Hill Raiders Black. Brampton would get off to a quick start with a goal in the 11th minute by Navdeep Gill. They would add a second goal in the 43rd minute by Enzo Guerra. Richmond Hill would fight back in the second half, but were unable to beat the Brampton keeper. Brampton would put the game away with goals in the 74th and 87th minutes by Gill and Ryan Whittingham. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brampton was #16 Antonio Sereno. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Richmond Hill was #18 Zaman Bashar. Congratulations to 97 Brampton Blast!

Under 16 Boys Tier 1 – Civic Stadium, Oshawa

The Under 16 Boys Tier 1 Semi-Finals started off much the same as the Tier 2 division did. Richmond Hill Raiders White and North York Hearts 96 went ninety minutes without a goal leaving it 0-0 at the end of regulation time. In Kicks from the Penalty Mark, North York Hearts 96 came out on top, outscoring Richmond Hill 5-3. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Richmond Hill Raiders White was Tahrik Rodriques and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for North York Hearts 96 was Andrew McCulloch.

The second Semi-Final in the Under 16 Boys Tier 1 division did see more goals as Brampton East Flames took on the Erin Mills Eagles Academy. A 2-1 win for Erin Mills Eagles sends the team to the Cup Finals at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan on September 8 to play against the North York Hearts. The Erin Mills goals were scored by Marquis Pitt and Victor Massunda. The lone goal for Brampton East Flames was netted by Paul Arminder. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brampton East Flames was Thoms Kadell and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Erin Mills Eagles was Jesse Bydeuaate.

Under 16 Boys Tier 2 – Civic Stadium, Oshawa

Another hot day on the turf at Civic Stadium in Oshawa did not stop the Under 16 Boys teams from going to battle for the opportunity to play in the Ontario Cup Finals. In the first Under 16 Boys Tier 2 Semi-Final, Royal York FC and Mississauga O.K.D. took to the field. Ninety minutes of action went by though with neither team able to find the back of the net. With no score at the end of regulation time, the game went to Kicks from the Penalty Mark to be decided. In the end, Mississauga O.K.D. outscored Royal York FC 5-3 in Kicks from the Penalty Mark. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Royal York FC was Adrian Dasko and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Mississauga O.K.D. was Aaron Mann.

The second Semi-Final at Civic Stadium in the Under 16 Boys Tier 2 division saw more goals, however, as Kleinburg Nobleton 1996 Red encountered the Ajax FC 1996 Boys White. In all, there were five goals scored, however, three belonged to Kleinburg Nobleton Red, while just two were notched by Ajax FC White. Kleinburg’s Daniel Sibley netted two for his team, while Jason Rites scored the other. The Ajax FC goals were credited to Andrea Lamanna and Marc Miville. The Boston Player of the Game for Kleinburg Nobleton 1996 Red was Daniel Sible and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Ajax FC was Andrea Lamanna. Kleinburg Nobleton 1996 Red will meet Mississauga O.K.D. in the Under 16 Boys Tier 2 Final at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan on September 16th.

Under 16 Girls – Hershey Centre, Mississauga

In the first of the Under 16 Girls Semi-Finals, Burlington Bayhawks took on Erin Mills Fighting Eagles. Both teams came out with intensity and exchanged chances early. Burlington was able to get on the board at the end of the first half to go into half time with a 1-0 lead. Burlington kept the pressure on and was able to extend their lead midway through the second half. The final score was 2-0 for Burlington. The goal scorers for Burlington were #5 Nicole McGauley and #11 Nicole Brown. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Erin Mills was # 1 Alyson Balaz. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Burlington was #3 Brittney Daley. Congratulations to the Burlington Bayhawks!

In the second of the Under 16 Girls Semi Finals, Glen Shields 96 Red took on Brampton Brams United Angels. Glen Shields set the tone early with a goal in the 4th minute by # 2 Simone Wark. They would add a second goal before half by #11 Taylor Pryce in the 40th minute. The second half was very one-sided, especially towards the end of the game. Wark added a second goal in the 46th minute. #15 Michaela Dicianna scored in the 74th minute. #19 Cassidy Kunicyn scored in the 87th minute. And Pryce completed her hat trick with goals in the 84th and 88th minutes. In the end, Glen Shields walked away with a 7-0 victory. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Brampton was #11 Andrea Palermo. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Glen Shields was #11 Taylor Pryce. Congratulations to Glen Shields 96 Red!

Under 17 Boys Tier 1 – Esther Shiner Stadium, North York

In the first of the Under 17 Boys Tier 1 Semi-Finals, Ajax FC 95 Boys Red took on Waterloo United. Ajax looked like the stronger team in the early minutes, but was not able to find the back of the net until the 35th minute with a beautiful goal converted by #7 Brian Wright. At half time the score was 1-0 for Ajax. Waterloo picked up the intensity in the second half and was rewarded in the 51st minute with possibly the goal of the weekend. #7 Santiago Almada blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the top corner, equalizing the contest at 1-1. After exchanging chances in the closing minutes, the score was still tied after 90 minutes. Waterloo ended up winning 5-3 on Kicks from the Penalty Mark. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Ajax was #7 Brian Wright. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Waterloo was #7 Santiago Almada. Congratulations to Waterloo United!

In the second of the Under 17 Boys Tier 1 Semi-Finals, Erin Mills Eagles took on North Toronto Nitros Green. Both teams exchanged chances early, but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite great play by both keepers, Erin Mills was able to score a couple of goals before half time in the 32nd and 38th minute by Darren Gertiesingh and Allister Rivers. Erin Mills would put the game away in the second half with two more goals in the 69th and 84th minutes. Both second half goals were scored by Rivers, completing his hat trick. The final score was 4-0 for Erin Mills. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Erin Mills was #20 Allister Rivers. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for North Toronto was #3 Malcolm Loukides.

Under 17 Boys Tier 2 – Hershey Centre, Mississauga

In the first Under 17 Boys Tier 2 Semi-Final at Hershey Centre, Ajax United faced off against Whitby Iroquois AM. The first goal for Whitby came in the 10th minute and was scored by #19 Joshua Trentadue. Joshua followed up with a second goal in the 41st minute to put Whitby up 2-0 at half time. When play returned, #13 Matthew Hughes made it a 3-0 game in the 63rd minute. Three more goals would follow from Whitby, one from #16 Marcus Phipps and two more from Joshua Trentadue. Joshua had four goals in the game and was named Boston Pizza Player of the Game. Drake Sullivan #4 was Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Ajax United. Whitby will advance to the Finals on Sunday September 16th at The Soccer Centre.

The second Under 17 Boys Tier 2 Semi-Final was between Kleinburg Nobleton 95 Blue and Oshawa Turul FC. The first half included chances for both teams however the play remained 0-0 at the half. The first goal for Kleinburg would come in the 54th minute and was scored by #18 Josef Disanto. Another goal from Josef came two minutes later to make it a 2-0 game. Both teams battled hard however Kleinburg would win the game 4-0 with two more goals in the 74th minute by #6 Anthony Lucchese and the 85th minute for #18 Josef Disanto’s third goal of the game. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Kleinburg was #18 Josef Disanto and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Oshawa was #17 Shawayne Folices. Kleinburg will advance to the Ontario Cup Finals on Sunday September 16th at The Soccer Centre.

Under 17 Girls – Hershey Centre, Mississauga

In the first of the Under 17 Girls Semi-Finals, Ajax FC Red took on Erin Mills C. Ajax’s # 8 Alex Lamontagne converted an early chance in the 17th minute to give her team a 1-0 lead. Lamontagne would add a second goal in the early minutes of the second half. Ajax would keep the pressure on and found the back of the net in the 74th and 90th minutes by #5 Ashley Nater and #18 Grace Woroch. The final score was Ajax 4, Erin Mills 0. Ajax FC Red will move on to the Ontario Cup Finals at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan on September 9th.

In the second Under 17 Girls Semi-Final, the Richmond Hill Raiders faced off against Vaughan Navy Blue at Hershey Centre in Mississauga. The first goal came in the 19th minute and was scored by #9 Anne-Marie Yeboah. Richmond Hill Raiders, #20 Tamara Brown followed up the first goal with one of her own in the 31st minute to make it a 2-0 game at the half. Vaughan Navy Blue put the pressure on in the second half and produced several good chances, including a goal by #18 Samantha Furlin Evangelista off a corner kick in the 53rd minute to make it a 2-1 game. With several more exciting opportunities to tie it up, Vaughan fell short and let in two more goals in the 81st minute scored by #9 Anne-Marie Yeboah and in the 84th scored by #19 Cassandra Sribny to give Richmond Hill a 4-1 lead. Richmond Hill would go on to win the game 4-1 and advance to the Finals at The Soccer Centre on Sunday September 9th. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Vaughan was # 18 Samantha Furlin Evangelista and the Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Richmond Hill was # 9 Anne Marie Yeboah.

Men – Birchmount Stadium, Scarborough

In the first of the Men’s Semi-Finals, PCC Mississauga took on Ottawa Capital United. Mississauga looked to control the game from the beginning, and was able to go ahead 1-0 in the 9th minute on a great goal by #7 Jeff Alves. Mississauga kept the pressure on, but was unable to increase their lead going into the half. Ottawa picked up the pace in the second half and equalized in the 70th minute by a goal from #26 Byron Kazda. After 90 minutes, the score stood at 1-1. Mississauga would end up winning 4-1 on Kicks from the Penalty Mark. The Boston Pizza Player of the game for Mississauga was #7 Jeff Alves. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Ottawa was #26 Byron Kazda. Congratulations to PCC Mississauga!

In the second of the Men’s Semi-Finals, AEK London took on Scarborough GS United. London came out with a very high level of intensity and was rewarded with two quick goals by #11 Haris Cekic in the 3rd and 5th minutes. Scarborough was able to get one back with a goal in the 24th minute by #7 Emil Calixterio, leaving the score 2-1 for London at half time. The second half was all London, specifically #7 Alan McGreal. He scored in the 53rd, 69th, and 78th minutes to complete the hat trick and send his team to the Finals with a 5-1 victory. Congratulations to AEK London!

Women – Centennial Stadium, Toronto

In the first of the Women’s Semi-Finals, Vaughan Azzurri took on Scarborough GS United. Both teams came out with intensity in the first half, but it was Vaughan who was able to find the back of the net in the 37th minute by #24 Rita Keimakh. At the beginning of the second half, GS United came out flat and conceded a second goal in the 46th minute by #3 Samantha Cawkell. Vaughan would eventually put the game out of reach with a third goal in the 89th minute by #2 Colleen Beesley. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for GS United was #20 Angela Solarz. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Vaughan was #3 Samantha Cawkell. Congratulations to Vaughan Azzurri!

In the second of the Women’s Semi-Finals, North London Galaxy took on Windsor Caboto Strikers. North London controlled the play in the first half, but were only able to come up with one goal before half time by #10 Jennifer Rowe in the 27th minute. The second half was a much more one sided affair. Rowe would score her second goal in the 46th minute. North London would score two more in the 68th and 71st minutes by #5 Becca Jefferson and #14 McKenzie Johnson. North London’s Claire Hooper would add two more in the 74th and 78th minutes. Finally, Alex De Clerk would score in the 90th minute for a final score of North London 7, Windsor 0. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for North London was #10 Jennifer Rowe. The Boston Pizza Player of the Game for Windsor was #1Katrina Arnold.

Masters – Hershey Centre, Mississauga

In the first of the Masters Semi-Finals, Woodbridge Italia TFCO took on Winona Serbs. Woodbridge took advantage of an early chance with a goal in the 5th minute by #10 Blair Ceolin. Winona battled back in the 22nd minute with a goal by #22 Dusko Prijic. Just when it was looking like a draw going into the half, Woodbridge’s #14 Ryan Gamble found the back of the net in the 44th minute. Winona equalized quickly in the second half with Prijic’s second goal in the 48th minute. Woodbridge took the lead in the 66th minute with a beautiful goal by #18 Danny Amaral. And Woodbridge would put the game away in the 82nd minute with a goal by # 15 Hunter Madeley, winning 4-2. Congratulations to the Woodbridge Italia TFCO!

In the second of the Masters Semi-Finals, Scarborough GS United took on Mississauga AC Soccer Diavoli. Scarborough came out flying and was rewarded with a quick goal in the 7th minute by #6 Jerry Cipriani. Mississauga would keep their heads up, and would equalize in the 23rd minute by # 18 Steve Spizzirri. At half time, the game was locked at 1-1. Both teams would exchange chances in the early minutes of the second half, but both goalkeepers were up to the task. The stalemate was finally broken in the 85th minute by Mississauga’s #19 Waido Sponton, giving his team a 2-1 victory. Congratulations to the Mississauga AC Soccer Diavoli!

Classics – Centennial Stadium, Toronto

In the first Classics Semi-Final, Oak Ridges Lady Knights faced off against the Rexdale Reunited Elite at Centennial Stadium. Rexdale dominated the first half scoring three goals; the first would come in the 12th minute and was scored by #18 Jenn Yarndley. The first goal was followed up by two more goals in the 22nd minute and 36th minute scored by #17 Samantha Hellens. Oak Ridges was able to hold off Rexdale in the second half until the 67th minute when Rexdale’s #5 Juanita Beaudry made it a 4-0 game. The victory would go to Rexdale who will move on to the Finals on Saturday September 8th at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

In the second Classics Semi-Final, Acton Villa faced off against defending champions London Marconi at Centennial Stadium. The first London goal came in the 7th minute and was scored by #17 Karen Stone. London came right back after the first goal to score again in the 14th minute, #21 Heidi Marquis made it a 2-0 game at the half. In the 67th minute, Acton Villa fired back with a goal scored by #8 Kristen Whorley to make it a 2-1 game. Acton’s hard work paid off in the second half as they scored again in the 83rd minute, #10 Tina Blaskovic with the tying goal. At the end of regulation time the score remained at 2-2 resulting in Kicks from the Penalty Mark. After a tough fought battle by both teams, London Marconi was victorious winning 3-2 on Kicks from the Penalty Mark. London Marconi has advanced to the Finals at The Soccer Centre on Saturday September 8th.
