Ontario Cup Quarter-Final Rounds Set To Start Saturday, July 14,2012
VAUGHAN, July 11, 2012 — With 11 different divisions in action July 7-8, this was the busiest weekend to date for the 2012 Ontario Cup. The Under 16 Boys Tier 1 and Under 16 Girls divisions accounted for 12 Round Robin Tournaments held all over southern Ontario. Third Round Single-Game Knockouts also took place this past weekend in divisions ranging from Under 15 Boys Tier 2, to Men’s and Women’s.
Round Robin Tournament winners moving on the Quarter-Final Round are as follows:
On Saturday, July 7 six divisions faced off in Third Round Single-Game Knockouts. Among those in action were the U18 Boys and Girls, as well as the U21 Men and Women. Teams moving on in these divisions will have to stay sharp, as their Quarter-Final Rounds are scheduled for this coming Saturday, July 14. These age groups are on a quicker schedule than the rest of the Ontario Cup divisions, as many of the players on these teams have commitments to their University and College teams as early as August.

Sunday, July 8 saw the remaining Third Round Single-Game Knockout games take place, among them the highly competitive Men’s division. Hamilton Serbians were the story of the weekend, as they knocked off the defending Ontario Cup Champions Toronto Celtic with a 2-0 victory. Moving into the Quarter-Final Round, only four of the eight Ontario Soccer League provincial level teams remain: PCC Mississauga, Scarborough GS United, Caledon FC, and Woodbridge Strikers. The Quarter-Finals for the Men’s and Women’s divisions are scheduled for Sunday, August 12.

This coming weekend there will be 12 more Round Robin Tournaments in the Under 17 Boys Tier 1 and Under 17 Girls divisions. Also being held this weekend are the Quarter-Final Rounds for the Under 18 Boys and Girls, as well as the Under 21 Men and Women. Of the 29 Ontario Soccer League provincial level teams within these divisions, 23 still remain. This will make for a very exciting weekend as the top teams in the province fight for a spot in the Semi-Finals.

The Ontario Cup will be on a break the weekend of July 21-22, but will be back in action July 28-29 where we will wrap up the last of our Round Robin Tournaments. Also that weekend, the Semi-Final Round and Cup Final will take place for the Under 18 Boys and Girls, as well as for the Under 21 Men and Women.
