Canada’s women’s U-20   team is off to Europe for a two-week camp in Italy and Switzerland. The July 2012 camp will include Women’s U-20 International Friendly matches against Italy and Switzerland, with the first match in Verbania, Italy on 14 July and the second match in Buochs, Switzerland on 20 July.

Coach Andrew Olivieri selected 20 players for the European trip. The camp will help the team prepare for next month’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Japan 2012.

Canada will participate in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup from 19 August to 8 September 2012. Sixteen teams will participate in the summer tournament, with Canada set to face Argentina, Norway and Korea DPR in the group phase. Canada’s three group matches are 20 August against Argentina in Kobe, 23 August against Norway in Kobe, and 27 August against Korea DPR in Saitama.

Earlier this year, Canada qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Japan 2012 with a silver-medal performance at the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship. This year marks Canada’s fifth participation in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with its best performance a silver-medal finish at Canada 2002. In two years time, Canada will host the next FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2014.
