Ontario U15 Boys Open Spain Tour With Tight 2-1 Win Over Sant Andreu

BARCELONA, Spain — The U15 Boys started their Spain March break trip with a 2-1 win against a very technical Sant Andreu team.

In a stadium located in the heart of Barcelona surrounded by apartment buildings, the boys started strong and moved the ball around well. Both teams started the game feeling each other out as expected but the game opened up as time progressed.

The first opportunity and goal came in the 25th minute with some hard work and nice finishing by Richard Parker. Parker used his speed and muscle to win the ball from two St. Andreu defenders, broke in on goal and finished into the back of the net.

St. Andreu had some good ball movement. However the back line of Matteo Restrepo, Andrew Lebre, Donte Henry and Kamal Miller kept them at bay. Starting GK Luke Iacobellis kept his backline well organized and commanded his box at all times.

The next goal scoring chance came from a beautiful passing play that lead to a brilliant shot by Dayonn Harris which just went wide of the net.

Halftime score 1 – 0 Team Ontario

The second half started fast and strong for both teams with the ball moving around nicely. Team Ontario was well organized as usual and caused St. Andreu to foul our boys on numerous occasions.

In the 60th minute, a corner kick from Emmanual Zambazis was headed back by Kamal Miller and Andrew Gordon finished beautiful into the St. Andreu net to put Ontario up 2-0.

The strong play by both teams continued in what was called a tight game by all players, staff and spectators. The game was also a physical affair with Andrew Lebre receiving a yellow card for his strong defensive play. In the 75th minute, St. Andreu were awarded a penalty after one of their strikers was brought down in the box.

Luke Iacobellis made a beautiful save to his left off the penalty, but the kicker jumped on the rebound and calmly placed it into the net.

Ontario kept up the pressure to close out the game with Dayonn Harris, Troy Lindsay and Jullian Mullian keeping the St. Andreu back line on their toes.

The win was a great way to start Team Ontario’s 2012 March Break tour.
