Canada U17 Women’s Florida Camp Update

SUNRISE, FL U.S.A. — Coach Bryan Rosenfeld is pleased with the progress of Canada’s women’s U-17 side midway through a 10-day camp in Sunrise, FL. This marks the U-17 team’s fourth project since August 2011, with preparations to continue in advance of the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship in Ciudad Guatemala in early May. Coach Rosenfeld has 22 players born 1995 or later participating in this particular camp.

As part of the Florida camp, coach Rosenfeld’s side played Germany to a 0:0 draw in an Women’s U-17 International Friendly match on Saturday 4 February 2012. The Canadian team featured 16 players – 11 starters and five subsitutes in a 60-minute match. Both sides created chances, but neither could hit the back of the net. Germany featured 22 players, with a full rotation of 11 players after the half.

Coach Rosenfeld said the Canadian team played well, although the Germans also played well enough to disrupt any flow in the offence. As expected, Germany was clear and organized in its approach to the match. The Canadian team continues to progress and knows it must strengthen its focus before the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship, which will qualify three CONCACAF teams to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Azerbaijan 2012.

Before the end of this project, Canada will play Florida International University on Wednesday 8 February. Coach Rosenfeld expects to feature a different lineup of players to ensure he sees all 22 of his players in game action.
