VAUGHAN, ON – In the fourth match of the last Ontario Cup weekend, the East York Dragans met the Whitby Iroquois in the Under 16 Boys Tier 2 Division Final.

The Whitby Iroquois took to the field looking to follow the example of their Under 15 Boys team who claimed the Provincial Championship minutes before on the same field.

The best chance of the first half came after an East York defender committed a foul in his own penalty area, leading to a penalty-kick awarded to Whitby.

However, the scoreless deadlock remained unbroken as East York goalkeeper #1 Nicholas Polanyi made an excellent save.

At the half-time whistle, the game remained scoreless.

Early in the second half, Whitby earned a second penalty-kick for another foul in the penalty area.

This time it was #5 Cody Kraemer who stepped up to the mark and, making no mistake, put the Iroquois on the scoreboard 1-0.

The goal seemed to give Whitby confidence as they elevated their offensive intensity and started to control the match.

East York were not creating enough chances in open play to level the match, and they knew they had to capitalize when they found themselves with a free-kick from 25 yards out.

#5 Movladdin Biyarslanov was stepped up and struck a sweet right-footed shot into the top-right corner, leaving the Whitby goalkeeper with no chance.

The Dragans`goal levelled the match 1-1, as this Provincial Championship Final  appeared destined for Kicks from the Penalty Mark.

However, with only seconds remaining in added-time, Whitby’s #19 Joshua Trentadue split the East York defence, ran onto a bouncing ball and struck a right-footed volley into the bottom-right corner of the East York net.

This last-minute strike sealed the game 2-1 in favour of the Whitby Iroquois who were crowned Ontario Cup Champions.
