VAUGHAN, ON – In the second match of this 2011 Ontario Cup Finals weekend at the Ontario Soccer Centre, the U14 Boys Division finalists met to not only decide the Provincial Champion, but also to determine Ontario’s representative at the National Club Championships in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland later this October.

This U14 Boys Final was an all-York Region affair featuring the Kleinburg Nobleton Lions and the Vaughan Azzurri.

The first half was evenly contested with both sides unable to break down the opposing side’s defence to generate clear chances.

Attack and counter-attack see-sawed back-and-forth, end-to-end, with neither side able to find the key to break the deadlock. At halftime, the score remained at 0-0.

In the second half, both teams came onto the field looking to solve the other’s backline, put the stalemate remained 20 minutes in.

The first and only goal of the game finally came in the 68th minute when Vaughan’s #4 Benny Ampofo got his right foot on a bouncing ball in front of the Lion’s goal to put the Azzurri  ahead.

The Kleinburg Nobleton Lions nearly had their equalizer five minutes from time, but goalkeeper Antonio Damiano made an excellent save to preserve Vaughan’s lead.

In the closing minutes, Vaughan defended furiously against everything the Lions brought forward in their attacks and the Azzurri were able to hold on to claim the Ontario Cup and secure their berth at the National Club Championships to be held October 5-11 in Mt. Pearl, NL.

Final Score:
Vaughan Azzurri 1 v 0 Kleinburg Nobleton Lions

  1. The Ontario Soccer Association’s Ontario Cup program received a protest from the Kleinburg Nobleton S.C. regarding this Ontario Cup game in which it was alleged that:

Vaughan Azzurri A Under-14 Male Team violated OSA Registration Policy 5.11 in that it did not have the required minimum of nine players with a legal address within the District boundaries of the York Region S.A.

The decision of the Ontario Cup Protest Committee published on September 22 was that:
