VALENCIA, Spain — On March 16th, Team Ontario traveled to the beautiful training grounds of Villarreal FC in Valencia, Spain for their first Exhibition match.
The game kicked off at 19:00 hrs. with Ontario starting well and creating several scoring chances from Jordan Hamilton and Mark Wadid.
Villarreal had plenty of the ball but only forced Andrew D’Souza to save routinely on one occasion.
The opening goal came in the 20th minute when Ryan Pereira fed Mark Wadid with a beautiful defence-splitting pass down the centre of the pitch for Wadid to latch onto, fight off one defender and finish calmly.
Team Ontario continued to press but the score remained 1-0 going into the break.
After the interval, Jordan Hamilton finally broke through for the first of his two goals in the 51st minute.
The game changed in the 52nd minute when Ryan Periera picked up his second yellow card for a late challenge.
The hosts started pressing to get back into the game but could not break through Ontario’s back four with Andrew D’Souza between the uprights.
