2nd Annual Kick 4 The Cure Tournament April 22nd

The second Annual Kick 4 The Cure Women’s Indoor Soccer Tournament in support of breast cancer research will take place Sunday, April 22 in Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH, Thursday, April 12, 2007 – On Sunday April 22, 2007, the Scarborough Soccer Association will be hosting the Second Annual KICK 4 THE CURE Women’s Indoor Soccer Tournament. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The tournament takes place at the Scarborough Soccer Centre (45 Fairfax Crescent, one stoplight north of St. Clair and Warden Avenues), with 12 teams from Ontario as well as Montréal, Quebec taking part.

Round-robin play begins at 9 a.m. with the championship final slated for 4 p.m. Ontario’s Durham Region will be represented by the Ajax United Strikers, winners of the first-ever Kick 4 The Cure Women’s Indoor Soccer Tournament in 2006.

Teams from Scarborough, Leaside and Vaughan have also registered.
The inaugural tournament raised $7,050.00 for breast cancer research and this year organizers have set a goal of $10,000.

Organizers expect to reach their goal by way of team registration fees, pledge forms handed in by players, individual donations by spectators as well as through the sale of special “Kick 4 The Cure” pins and cupcakes.
Round robin play for the one-day tournament begins at 9 a.m. followed by semi-final and championship final matches.

As stated on the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation website — – ”One in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer in her lifetime and one in 27 will die of it. Also an estimated 160 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 45 will die of it.”

In 2006, an estimated 22,200 Canadian women – including 8,400 in Ontario – were diagnosed with breast cancer, and an estimated 5,300 – including 2,000 in Ontario – died from breast cancer.
