Windsor Caboto Strikers Win 2011 Women’s Ontario Cup

VAUGHAN, ON – In the last Ontario Cup Final of the day, Windsor Caboto faced off against the Richmond Hill Raiders Green team to determine the Women’s Provincial Champion and vie for the honour of representing Ontario in the National Club Championships later this October in Brossard, QC.
The first half of the game featured plenty of back-and-forth forays and counters with much of the action taking place in the Windsor end.
With the first half ending scoreless, it became apparent that strong goal keeping and solid defence would mark the nature of this game.
The second half was much the same as the first, with both teams looking to up the pressure and get on the scoreboard.
In the 70th minute, the Caboto side capitalized on a scramble in front of the net when #5 Bojana Kovacevic found the back of the net to put Windsor up 1-0.
The Raiders responded by re-doubling their attacks and producing numerous scoring chances.
With only a single substitute on their bench, the Windsor Caboto women mounted a gritty defence combined with solid goal-keeping by Katrina Arnold to parry all the Raiders`attacks and hold onto their slim lead until the final whistle after 4 minutes of stoppage time.
With a final score of 1-0, Windsor Caboto were crowned Ontario Cup Champions and booked their National Club Championships ticket to Quebec in October.
