OSATv TouchLine With Lombardo & Forno
VAUGHAN, ON – Anthony Totera’s guests on this week’s TouchLine include:
- Andrea Lombardo & Luca Forno – members of the Canadian Soccer League’s Portugal FC, on their experiences growing up playing for Woodbridge SC, participating in Ontario and National Championships, playing for Canada’s National Team, training and playing overseas and their individual development roadmaps which they have travelled to arrive at their current professional careers, their views on the level of competition in the CSL today, the prospects of CSL and MSL teams going head-to-head in an “open” Nutrilite Championship, the importance of fan support, Canada’s World Cup outlook and the necessity of more high-level international matches to prepare against Canada’s opponents in CONCACAF qualifying rounds.
Lombardo played for the Canadian Under-20 national side and was on the team in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He began his professional career with Atalanta in 2004. In 2005 and 2006, he was loaned to Perugia and to Rieti. He joined Toronto FC in their inaugural season of Major League Soccer in 2007 and played two seasons with the club before being released. He went on to play 4 games for the York University soccer men’s team. However, he was found to be violation of Ontario University Athletics rules because he did not maintain amateur status, having played professionally within the past year. All 4 games were overturned and despite rumours he had left the team, he re-joined the Lions for the 2009/2010 CIS season. On 28 April 2010 signed an one year contract for Canadian Professional Soccer League club Portugal FC.
Forno represented the Woodbridge Azzurri in Ontario Cup and National Club Championships and the York University Lions in the CIS Championships.
