Canada Faces Jamaica In CONCACAF Opener
ALAJUELA, Costa Rica — Canada’s women’s U-17 team put the final touches to its on-field preparations on Wednesday in advance of the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship.
Canada faces group rival Jamaica on Thursday 11 March at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The group match kicks off at 20.30 local and will be broadcast live on www.CONCACAF.com (20.30 ET / 17.30 PT).

Canada is taking part in the second CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship from 10-20 March in Costa Rica. The top-two teams from the eight-team competition will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010.
In the group phase, Canada faces Jamaica on 11 March, Panama on 13 March and Mexico on 15 March.
Canada most recently faced Jamaica in the Women’s Under-17 Four Nation Tournament in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. Canada won that 3 March match 4:1 on the strength of goals by Chantale Campbell, Caroline Beaulne, Sabrina Hémond and Haillie Price. Canada posted one win, one draw and one loss to finish second at the Four Nation Tournament.
Canada, whose title sponsor is BMO Financial Group, arrived in Costa Rica on Tuesday 9 March. On Wednesday 10 March, it took part in two light training sessions in advance of the Thursday night match.
Two years ago, Canada finished third at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship to qualify for the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup New Zealand 2008. Canada then reached the quarter-final stage of the 16-team tournament.
This time, Canada will need to finish first or second to qualify for Trinidad and Tobago 2010. The qualification semi-final is set for 18 March while the confederation final is set for 20 March.
